Threshold

Threshold is a series of nine photographs about the state between presence and dissolution. Each image holds a single organic subject, a flower, a stem, a piece of produce, caught at the moment where it is both here and leaving, neither fully arrived nor fully gone.

The blur and the echoes in these images were not added afterwards. I moved elements of the lens during each exposure, so what you see happened in the moment the shutter was open. The subject becomes uncertain, caught on its way to being something else.

I am drawn to that in-between, where a thing feels most alive because it is about to end. The organic subject is only the vessel. The threshold itself is the breath between being and disappearing.

Only the figure holds light. Everything else falls to black.
